This week ushered in the new Times Square traffic plan: the most congested strip of Broadway between 42nd & 47th Streets is now shut down to traffic. Yellow cabs have been replaced with tourists chilling out on lawn chairs, soaking up the sun. Next best thing to a day at the beach...
Oh, that is hysterical! I heard they were doing this (the logistics must be mind-blowing), but I didn't expect such a beach-going response. Maybe in L.A., but not N.Y. What a riot of a scene. I bet it is much easier for you to walk to work now. Or do you bring your own lawn chair and chill out every few steps?
Re the last post--yes, I was serious about the Time Warner deal (but not about it being a reason for you to return!).

I can only imagine how it will be...how strange would it be? Sitting on the road...gaping at all those signboards...listening to people's voices instead of the hustle and bustle of traffic....like time came to a standstill....actually...that should be very calming...peaceful...nice! :-)

This is just amazing! What do you think of it?

I love it. It has a very nice feeling to it. I wish they would expand the traffic-free zone even further. Right now traffic is still allowed on 7th Ave, which runs right next to Broadway for a bit. It would be even better if they shut down that part too. But I hear taxi drivers are not so happy about it all.
