My Alaska adventure is fast coming to a close. I didn't get to cross off everything on my Alaska bucket list, but I came pretty close. On this day of thanksgiving, I am grateful for two years of exploring and enjoying this beautiful state. Here is my attempt at ranking my top Alaska experience.
It's number one on the list because nothing took my breath away like the Northern Lights. And because I feel incredibly lucky to have been in the right place at the right time to catch this spectacular, elusive show.
Should probably tie with the northern lights for #1 spot. Spotting over 50 of these beautiful creatures in the wild completely exceeded my hopes and expectations.
It's easy to see why this is Alaska's biggest draw. And not just the grand Denali mountain itself; the whole park is a treat for the senses.
Wildlife doesn't get any more adorable that this. Lounging around on the water like they don't have a care in the world. Munching on crabs. Gawking at us as we peer and click at them.
Completing the Midnight Sun Run 10K with my sisters was great fun, but it was the midnight sun itself that was the biggest attraction.
Hundreds of them, all in one place in Haines. Though watching even just one soaring in Juneau makes me smile.
Humpbacks, orcas, and a bowhead. Majestic creatures, even when you only glimpse a tail or two.
Just one of dozens of spectacular glaciers scattered around the state.
Taking the slow train from Anchorage to Fairbanks. An exquisite way to travel.
Before I moved here, when I pictured Alaska, this is the image that came to mind. Miles and miles of picture-postcard snow country.
