Snowy Magnolia, Magnolia proctoriana, at Durand Eastman Park, Rochester, New York.
Those of you who are regular readers of this blog know that flowers are one of my favorite photography subjects. I've done a number of flower series, including flowers of Kodaikanal, Kerala, Ooty, and the Himalayas.
But these days I don't have to go that far to find gorgeous flowers -- the Rochester springtime is bringing the flowers to me. It has inspired me to start a Flowers of Rochester series! I've already shown the crocuses; next up, in today's blog entry, are the magnificent magnolias, which are bursting out all around me. (FYI: "Snowy Magnolia" is the actual name of this species; easy to see why!)

Love the shot in the park with the carpet of white petals. Gorgeous.

with that micro lens, it's like entering into the flower's world!

I loved the juxtaposition of the trees and then the micro photo of a single flower...makes you believe in magic. I couldn't help thinking that nature is bribing the residents of Rochester for having made it
through another winter! Flowers here in CT are very mixed up this year...as a few days warmth like early summer makes blooms peek out and then back to freezing winter temps...thank God
most of them are hardy enough...a friend of mine has roses out! Sharon

Wow! When I took pictures of the very same magnolia trees in Durand Park in February, they really were SNOWY magnolia trees. What a difference!

Dale: The white carpet was gorgeous. It was also very pretty to watch the petals falling down, whenever there was a gust of wind. It really looked like it was snowing.
sister M: Yeah, micro lenses are pretty cool for that. Amazing, the beauty inside little things-
Sharon: Rewarding us Rochesterians for a brutal winter is a good way to look at it...
SS: What a beautiful poem! Thanks for the link-
Kevin G: Thanks (and glad to see you back in business...)
Donna K: I know - it hasn't been that long ago - the blossoms seemed to come up overnight (and are going away just as quickly, it seems).
