Blooming everywhere in Kerala was the gorgeous Mayflower tree (scientific name Delonix regia), sometimes referred to as one of the most colorful trees in the world. In India, it is better known by its Hindi name, Gulmohar. Mary and I both enjoyed the flaming orange-red blossoms, which peak in April and May.

These are very beautiful pictures - very nice thematic post. We are lucky enough to have plenty of Gulmohars in Delhi also. Stunningly beautiful as they are, they really light up the city. But season seems to be over now :o(

It looks like hot lava slowly pouring down from a vulcano! Amazing.

Wow Gulmohar Gulmohar everywhere :) Gives a fresh look to the otherwise sultry weather we're having back here in Chennai. Hope you had a wonderful time Basia.

Kevin: Hmmm..that's an interesting question. I don't know the answer. I'll have to see if I can find out.
Esben: Yes, sadly, the gulmohar season seems to be winding down here in the south as well.
Genilimaa: Wow Genilimaa, you have a way with words (and a very vivid imagination...) ;o)
Gayathri: I did - I had a fabulous time. I always enjoy Kerala when I go there.
