What are the women in the group doing?

I'm not sure exactly what they were doing, but it looked like some sort of religious ritual. First they were sitting around in a circle, with their heads down, chanting, holding flower garlands, then they each took out a vessel (container) and held it up and one of them stood up and poured water from a kettle into a vessel in the middle of the group. I think at the point where I took this photograph they were distributing little flower and candle packets.
