Sasmita. This young woman was visiting Chennai with her parents.
She gave me her address and asked me to send her the pictures I took of her.

It amazes me that even the homeless people defy what I am used to seeing in America. They don't look homeless, or unhappy. It seems that it's just a day at the beach with family, a break from work and chores. They take the time to clean themselves and their clothes, and they don't look as if they are suffering. It's trans-continental culture shock to me when I read your comments! Keep 'em coming!

The last picture of the 5 women together reminds me of us and Tereska. Just the Indian version.

Oscar Wilde said,"We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars." This appeared in an article Sunday about a poor 8 yr. boy in Chicago a reporter interviewed in 1984, whose smile and inner strength so inspired her, it become her son's middle name. (She had given him her number to call collect which he did for a number of years. He made it through school and kept that same beautiful smile.) Reminded me of the Indian children...and what a wonderful effect their smiling faces have had on everyone logging on...love doesn't care about your material status. You must be putting something in the air...The Sunday NY Times ran a story about neuroscientists now accepting the study of Buddhist meditation as a serious subject. "Is Buddhism Good for Your Health?" How timely. The rains have started on the East coast now..sent up by Hurricane Isabella...all the boats coming furiously out of the water...I just hope it doesn't interfere in my ability to log on! sharon
